I read with sadness that former Oxford rider Pete Jarman has passed away. 'Speedy' Pete also used to be the track curator in the late seventies. A rider with many clubs Poole, Cradley, Oxford & Eastbourne to name a few. Sadly time marches. RIP colin

This is sad news. "Speedy" Pete was a rider I only saw a few times, as his career was coming to an end when I first caught the speedway "bug". I do remember his riding, and enjoying his style. I particularly remember a great race between Gordon Kennett and Pete at Oxford where the two of them "gave it the berries" and Pete entered the slowing down lap laughing long and hard!

Very sad to hear of the death of Speedy Pete Jarman, riding for the Cheetahs from the 1969/1970 seasons, joined from Wolverhampton and moved on to Cradley Heath.
Memories, seems such a long time ago now.
RIP

What with 'Speedy Pete' & the 'Hurri Ken' Mckinlay now racing elsewhere, these were some of the last racers that used the great J.A.P. engine. A sad time, but wonderful memories, my thanks to them all. colin

Hi All
My memories of Pete Jarman, apart from his racing, are of his track preparation skills. In the seventies when we were owned by Cradley and Chris Van S. was the named promoter Pete prepared the Oxford track to a very high standard. In those days after the meeting he bladed the track back with dear old George Squires driving the tractor and you would hear Pete screaming "George, George ......" at the top of his voice when he wanted a different line of dirt bladed. I also remember one afternoon pre meeting giving a hand when Colin Gooddy's wife (partner?) phoned from Poole to speak to Pete following a very serious crash and injury Colin received at Poole the previous night. I went and got Pete off the track and after hearing this news he cried buckets but went back out to prepare the track for the nights racing. He also pepared good tracks at Cradley and Poole where I believe he was also team manager for a while. A good man gone. RIP Pete

Very sad news indeed as everyone has said, especially coming so soon after the passing of former referee Will Hunter. I saw "Speedy Pete" racing many, many times and a nicer bloke you couldn't wish to meet either.
Deepest condolences to all his family and friends.

Really sad to hear of speedy Pete's passing, he was on of my Oxford favourites in my early days of watching the cheetahs, him and Joe Goody were realy value for money in those days. I remember well in one purple patch he produced two and nearly three maximums in a row, gating last in every race, (I think he did it deliberately to cut back), nobody would ever be able to do that on the current tracks. Condolences to his friends and family.
