After a number of weeks of frustration in attempting to help facilitate an agreement to see speedway continue into its 60th consecutive season at Oxford the SOS and Oxford Speedway Supporters Groups have decided that it is time to extend the campaign to save speedway at one of the country's most successful clubs.
Despite numerous attempts to seek a meeting with the GRA, both BSPA Chairman Peter Toogood and the supporters groups have continually been unable to secure any contact with the Managing Director of the Greyhound Racing Association, Clive Feltham. To date there has been no response to any attempt to talk with the GRA and at no stage have the GRA made public their thoughts on the continuation of the sport in Oxford. With the Conference League Chairman meeting in two weeks time, Oxford have until the 24th January to secure a deal with their landlords before the curtain will fall on league racing at Oxford in 2008, a situation which will leave severe doubt as to whether the bikes will ever be seen again at Oxford
Therefore a Fans Meeting has been called for next Tuesday 15 January where fans can be updated on the efforts so far to see racing continue and what the next steps are. The meeting will take place at the Kidlington Green Social Club, Green Road, Kidlington, Oxford and will commence at 7.30pm.
Invitations will be extended to the local press as well as to local politicians although it is unknown at this stage whether they will able to attend.
There is no doubt that the next 14 days are crucial to the future of the club and we would encourage as many people to come as are able to to help with the fight to save our great club

Hi Chris, Is Green Rd Club going to be large enough? Brian Not sure, but its available at short notice and we preferred not to go to the stadium for this one Maybe it will be standing room only but we needed to do something quickly

I will not be going to the AGM either, not if it is held at the stadium, there are other venues where it could be held. Does it have to be a Friday evening? If not I would be willing to pay for the Main Hall at the Gladiators Club 263 Iffley Road Oxford, the only problem with this venue is the parking, but there is some. How many people are likely to turn up to this event? However this club is on a main bus route and easier to get to by bus than the stadium. The club doesn't open until 7 pm so the meeting would have to be for say 7.45. Just a thought. PS And the beer is a lot cheaper. Quote taken from Supporters Club AGM 2008 thread. And the answer to this offer was? ??

The Green Road club is a venue we use for all our SOS functions, we have a sound system built into the clubs system so it gives us a PA system with no effort Appreciate you suggested Gladiators for the OSSC AGM but we needed a venue quickly as they do for all of our events the Green Road club were happy to oblige with no charge. We have held around 80 SOS events at the Green Road club and to this day have not paid one penny in hire charges to them. In addition they also sponsor a number of our events with financial assistance and are a very great friend to Oxford Speedway Hope that explains why we went the way we did

Any chance of some directions? colin1 The address is Kidlington Green Social Club 1, Green Rd, Kidlington, Oxfordshire OX5 2EU Tel: 01865 372634 For those coming from Oxford. Head to Kidlington to teh main roundabout entering Kidlington. This is the roundabout with Sainsburys on it. Head towards Kidlington keeping Sainsburys on your right. Keep going through Kidlington until you arrive at a set of Traffic Lights with a car wash to your right. At thatose lights continue straight on and after around 200 yards take the first right hand turn (this will be just past a motoring shop J & Sons). On turning right into Green road turn immediately left into the Green Road Club. You should enter the club to the right of the building following the signs for the Function Room. The bar will be open and I suspect seating will be limited Hope that helps

Thanks Chris for the latest update, and you've confirmed what I thought the state of play was.
I'm unable to join you next Tuesday as I'll be on my way to America on business, and don't return until the 24th.
I can only suggest two things. I assume we have Mark Young in our corner, and perhaps its time for him to try to call in as many favours as possible from his contacts in the local media and get BBC Oxford tv, BBC Radio Oxford, Fox FM, Jack FM and the Oxford newspapers to carry the story of the GRA's conduct. They quite clearly want to kill Oxford Speedway off, but haven't got the backbone to face the fans or the local media to explain why.
If he's not been contacted yet, it's time to drag the local MP into some kind of activity.
Sorry I can't be there, but I'll be keeping a regular watch on this website while I'm away.

John Just to put you in the picture Colin Pollard spoke with Ross Heaton from Rad Ox and BBC South yesterday and he has pledged his support for the campaign. The Oxford Mail will carry pretty much whatever we ask them to and over the next few days there will articles in there carrying the story. Bryn's Press release went to 60 odd press outlets I have invited Andrew Smith MP as well as wife wife Val who is the County Councillor for the area. Also Councillor Bob Timbs (who I work with and is the councillor for the neighbouring ward) has been doing a lot of digging in the Council chambers for us and I believe he will come on Tuesday. Bob has also written to Andrew to ask for his support

Well done Chhris and Colin.
Can I just ask the question for the sake of it and avoid any possibility at all of anyone having 'egg on their face' on Tuesday:
Chris do we actually know who has called the GRA on several occasions and they (GRA) have refused to take the call?
I feel sue someone has but just want the box ticked to confirm it.

I feel sue someone has but just want the box ticked to confirm it. Peter Toogood has left endless messages Brian, I have called, Rob Peasley has called (in his Oxford mail role) to name but a few. What we do know for certain is that Clive Feltham is very aware of the desire of people from Oxford to talk to him

Thanks Chris, but I cannot understand why someone has not just turned up at his office for a face to face discussion.
Mr Feltham's attitude has changed quite cosiderably for some reason; he has always been a tough cookie but was always approachable in the past.
Anyway thanks again
